FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INSTITUTIONAL LOCKDOWN AND EXCEPTIONAL SEARCH

Kitchener, Ontario, November 19, 2009 - Grand Valley Institution for Women was locked down for an exceptional general search to locate a missing security key at approximately 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning. Inmates are being restricted to their living units while staff conduct the search. It is anticipated that the search will be completed later today.

While the search is being conducted, medical services and essential escorts are being maintained for inmates. Visiting and non-essential escorts are being restricted. Visitors should contact the institution prior to attending for previously scheduled visits.

The Correctional Service of Canada is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the institution and of the public. We are confident that the safety of the public is being maintained in this instance.
