CAMPBELLFORD, ON – NOVEMBER 23, 2009 – On Sunday, November 22, 2009 at approximately 1:45 p.m., staff noticed a visitor acting suspiciously. The visitor was questioned by staff and the Security Intelligence Officer and eventually handed over two packages, one containing 10 grams of tobacco and the other containing 7.9 grams of cocaine. The total estimated institutional value of the tobacco and drugs is between $3950.00 - $6500.00.
The OPP attended the Institution and charged the visitor with “Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.”
Thanks to the diligence of institutional staff, a significant amount of contraband was intercepted and prevented from entering the institution.
The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities. Through the professionalism of our staff and the cooperation of police officials, a significant entry of drugs to our facility has been prevented.
Warkworth Institution is a medium-security institution which currently houses 569 male offenders.
