Bath, ON, January 19, 2010 - On Monday January 18, 2009 at approximately 6:15 p.m. an inmate was assaulted in the gymnasium area. The inmate was able to move to a barrier where staff quickly intervened, deploying chemical agents to safely remove the inmate from the area.
The injured inmate immediately received first aid on site and was transferred to Kingston General Hospital via ambulance to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The injured inmate remains at outside hospital under observation.
All inmates were returned to their cells and accounted for by 11:15 p.m. Two inmates have been segregated as a result of the incident.
The OPP Pen Squad has been contacted and is investigating. Correctional Service Canada will also be conducting an investigation.
Millhaven Institution is currently operating on a normal routine and visits are proceeding as scheduled.
