Kingston, Ontario, February 9, 2010 - At approximately 9:55 p.m. on February 8, 2010, Pittsburgh Institution staff discovered an inmate in an out-of-bound area of the institution. Immediate attempts by staff to apprehend the offender were unsuccessful. Staff searched the grounds but did not locate the offender. A count confirmed that inmate Mark Lloyd AUBERTIN could not be located on the premises.
Mark Lloyd AUBERTIN was last seen on the premises at 7:00 p.m. during a formal count. AUBERTIN is serving a 4 year and 2 month sentence for Possession Scheduled I/II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, two weapons possessions offences, and 13 property related offences. AUBERTIN's sentence commenced on May 29, 2008. His Statutory Release Date is June 1, 2011 with a Warrant Expiry Date of July 28, 2012.
Pittsburgh Institution is a minimum security facility. It is located beside Joyceville Institution on Hwy 15. Only those offenders who are assessed as having a low risk to public safety are placed in a minimum security institution.
The Correctional Service of Canada is working closely with police in an effort to locate the offender as quickly as possible and is investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
