FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION END OF EXCEPTIONAL SEARCH

Kingston, Ontario, February 26, 2010 - The exceptional search ordered by the Warden at Joyceville Institution on Monday, February 22 has now been completed. As of noon Friday, February 26 the institution is on modified routine throughout the weekend.

During this search, several contraband items were seized by staff from inmate cells and common areas, including five homemade weapons and various tattoo paraphernalia.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Visiting has been re-instated effective Saturday, February 27. Visitors are encouraged to confirm with Joyceville Institution at (613) 536-6400.
