FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT ON STAFF - JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ontario, March 11, 2010 - This morning at approximately 11:00 a.m. a staff member was physically assaulted by an offender while conducting a routine search on the range. The staff member sustained minor injuries. The offender has been transferred to a higher security institution in the Kingston area. The institution is on modified routine for the remainder of today and is expected to return to normal operation tomorrow.

The OPP Penitentiary Squad will be conducting an investigation into this incident.

CSC works to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.
