END OF LOCKDOWN AT WARKWORTH INSTITUTION

CAMPBELLFORD, ON, March 30, 2010 - The lockdown at Warkworth Institution has ended as of this afternoon.

The lockdown was ordered by the Acting Warden in order for staff to facilitate a search of the facility, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates following the discovery of homemade weapons on Sunday morning, March 28, 2010. Searching of the institution has been completed and no other serious contraband was found.

Regular visits will resume today, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
