CONTRABAND INTERCEPTION AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ontario, March 31st, 2010 – On Tuesday, March 30th 2010 at approximately 9:45 a.m., staff conducted a search on a visitor and as a result discovered 36 grams of tobacco, 16 grams of marijuana and 20 morphine pills worth an estimated institutional value of $2,500.

The OPP Penitentiary Squad was contacted and the visitor has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Preventing drugs from entering our institution is an ongoing challenge. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as ion scanners, drug dogs, searches of inmates, visitors, buildings and cells.
