Bath, ON, April 2, 2010 - On Thursday, April 1, 2010 at approximately 7:30 p.m. an inmate was assaulted in the gymnasium area. Staff quickly intervened and removed the inmate.
The injured inmate immediately received first aid on site and was transferred to outside hospital via ambulance with serious injuries and remains at hospital in stable condition.
The OPP Pen Squad was call to the site and the area secured pending an investigation.
Following the assault, inmates from the maximum security unit refused to return from the recreation yard. Negotiations continued throughout the night however inmates remain in the outside yard.
As a result institution is operating on a modified routine. Visitors are asked to contact the institution prior to visits.
CSC monitors and examines each incident of violence in order to improve its measures to prevent and reduce future incidents.
