FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH BY NATURAL CAUSES, KINGSTON PENITENTIARY

April 6, 2010, Kingston, Ontario - At approximately 8:00 a.m. on April 4, 2010, Pierre Gervais, passed away of apparent natural causes while in the Regional Hospital within Kingston Penitentiary.

Gervais was serving an indeterminate sentence, beginning May 23, 2006 for various sexual offences. The next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are notified. In addition, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
