DISTURBANCE ENDS AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

Kingston, ON, April 19, 2010 - The disturbance that began at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2010 has now ended.

Currently, there are two inmates at outside hospital in stable condition. The remaining inmates have been secured in their cells since approximately 2:40 p.m.

Correctional Service Canada will be conducting an internal investigation to determine the cause of the incident. The institution will remain on lockdown until the Warden is assured it is safe to return to normal routine.

Ensuring the safety and security of our institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the Correctional Service of Canada. No staff member reported injuries as a result of this incident.
