FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION ADOPTS MODIFIED ROUTINE

Kingston, ON, April 23, 2010 – Joyceville Institution has adopted a modified routine following the disturbance that began at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2010 .

The Institution has also returned to open visits as of Friday, April 23, 2010.

One inmate remains in outside hospital and is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) continues to conduct an internal investigation to determine the cause of the incident and is closely monitoring the situation.

CSC examines each incident of violence in order to improve practices to prevent and reduce future incidents.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
