FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION ADOPTS MODIFIED ROUTINE

Kingston, ON, April 29, 2010 – Joyceville Institution has adopted a modified routine following an inmate assault and subsequent lockdown and exceptional search on April 25th. Staff uncovered one homemade weapon and tattoo paraphanalia during a search of the institution. Most of the ranges have gained range privileges and some inmates are expected to report to work on Friday April 30th.

The injured inmate remains at outside hospital and is in stable condition.

The Instituion will return to open visits on Friday, April 30th.

Correctional Service Canada in collaboration with the Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad continues to investigate the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
