FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DRUG INTERCEPTION AT MILLHAVEN INSITUTION

BATH, ON, April 30, 2010 – On April 30, 2010 at approximately 9:00 am, staff members and a drug dog at Millhaven Institution detected and confiscated drugs from a visitor who had attended for a scheduled visit. Correctional Service Canada seized 3.3 grams of marijuana, 10 grams of liquid ecstasy, 2 capsules of heroin and 4 prescription medications, an institutional value of approximately $1000.

The OPP Penitentiary Squad was contacted and the visitor has been charged with 3 counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

CSC has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as searches of offenders, visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs and searches of buildings and cells.
