DRUG INTERCEPTION – COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ontario, May 3, 2010 - Security staff at Collins Bay Institution intercepted an inmate visitor at the institution on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Three packages containing 55.6 grams of marijuana were confiscated from the male visitor. The institutional value of the drugs ceased is valued at approximately $5,500.00.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad arrested the visitor and charged him with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The inmate with whom he was scheduled to visit has been placed in segregation.

As part of its Transformation Agenda, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and to promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works in partnership with the police to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
