Bath Ontario, May 20, 2010, Millhaven Institution On Tuesday May 18th, 2010 Correctional Officers escorted three Millhaven Institution inmates to the Napanee Court House. Prior to allowing the inmates access to the public washroom, officers searched and located 6 plastic eggs, confirmed to contain a quantity of drugs and tobacco. The institution and Napanee OPP are currently investigating who the drugs were destined for. The eggs contained approximately 49 grams of marijuana, 11 ecstasy pills, 1.6 grams of crack cocaine, 1 percocet tablet and a quantity of tobacco. The institutional value of the seizure totals approximately $5000.
The plastic eggs containing the drugs and tobacco have since been turned over to the Napanee OPP who is currently investigating.
As part of its Transformation Agenda, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works in partnership with the police to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
