FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH, KINGSTON PENITENTIARY REGIONAL HOSPITAL

Kingston, Ontario, June 8, 2010 - At approximately 7:00 p.m. on June 7, 2010, Richard M. Eastman, a Warkworth Institution inmate residing at the Kingston Penitentiary Regional Hospital, died of natural causes.

Richard Eastman was serving an indeterminate sentence as a Dangerous Offender for numerous offences, including First Degree Murder, Sexual Assault, Utter Threat to Cause Death, robberies and property related offences. His sentence began June 4, 1979. Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. Correctional Services Canada (CSC) will also review the circumstances surrounding this incident.
