FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kingston Ontario, June 14, 2010 - Security staff at Collins Bay Institution intercepted a number of packages on Sunday June 13, 2010. The packages were found during a routine search of the inmate recreation area. The packages were introduced from outside the institution by throwing over the wall, and contained a considerable quantity of drugs, including marijuana, heroin, crack cocaine and ecstasy with an approximate institutional value of $82000.00.
The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad, along with Correctional Services of Canada, continues to investigate this matter. Routine was delayed on the morning of June 13, however the institution returned to normal routine in the afternoon.
As part of its Transformation Agenda, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and to promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works in partnership with the police to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
