Kingston Ontario, June 21, 2010, Pittsburgh Institution - Acting on information from the Security Intelligence department at Pittsburgh Institution, the Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad intercepted two individuals at a restaurant in Napanee, who were en route to Pittsburgh Institution on Saturday, June 19, 2010. They seized 56 grams of marijuana, a number of oxycontin pills and 1 bail of tobacco, with an estimated institutional value of $6000.

The two women were arrested and charged by the police. Charges are pending for the inmates with whom they were scheduled to visit.

As part of its Transformation Agenda, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works in partnership with the police to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
