FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT ON INMATE – COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

Kingston, ON, July 5, 2010 – On Sunday, July 4th, 2010, at approximately 20:00 hrs Correctional Officers reported an inmate with visible signs of injury. Staff took immediate action accounting for all inmates and providing first aid to the individual involved. The victim appeared to have stab wounds to his back and was taken to outside hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.

The OPP Pen Squad was called to investigate this incident.

The institution is locked down while the investigation into the incident continues and will reopen to normal routine once the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so. Visitors are advised to call the institution in advance of attending.

Ensuring the safety and security of institution, staff, and the public remains the highest priority for Correctional Service Canada.
