Kingston, ON, September 21st 2010 - Collins Bay Institution is currently operating on a modified routine after enhanced searches over the weekend. On September 18th, 2010 the Warden authorized the lockdown and exceptional search to ensure the continued safety and security of staff and offenders, acting on information that there may be weapons and other contraband in the institution. Inmates are currently confined to their cells or limited to range activities.
So far, staff have seized a number of unauthorized items and a small amount of marijuana during the search. There have been no reported injuries to staff or inmates to date.
The institution remains under modified routine with most visits temporarily closed. Visitors to the institution should call ahead prior to visiting.
CSC works to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates. The institution will return to normal operations once the Warden determines it is safe to do so.
