FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT ON INMATE - WARKWORTH INSTITUTION

Campbellford, Ontario, September 28th, 2010 — On September 25th, 2010 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Correctional Officers reported an inmate with visible signs of injury. The victim appeared to have suffered injuries caused by a suspected altercation with other inmates. Correctional Staff took immediate action and provided first aid.

The inmate was transported to outside hospital, treated for injuries and returned to the institution the same night. Two instigators have been identified at this time. An internal investigation into this matter will continue and the OPP have been notified of the incident.

At this point in time the institutional routine remains normal.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
