FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kingston, ON, October 12, 2010 - As part of the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC) focus on pride and tradition, CSC has reintroduced the Change of Command Ceremony which allows staff to witness the passing of responsibility from one leader to another.
A Change of Command Ceremony will take place on October 18, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Kingston Penitentiary to mark the changes in command of Kingston Penitentiary and the Regional Treatment Centre. Kingston Penitentiary will be marking the change in command from the outgoing Warden Ms. Theresa Westfall to the incoming Warden Mr. Jay Pyke. The Regional Treatment Centre will be marking the change in command from the outgoing Acting Executive Director Kathy Hinch, to the incoming Executive Director Marie-Andrée Drouin.
This ceremony highlights the importance of being the leader of an institution and that there are responsibilities associated with taking on the role of Warden and Executive Director. It is an opportunity to commemorate CSC's traditions and reaffirms the incoming leader's commitment to enhancing public safety results for Canadians.
In addition, at 1:30 p.m., as part of Kingston Penitentiary's 175th Anniversary celebrations, media are invited to the institution for an interesting and informative tour of CSC's oldest facility.
Media are required to pre-register for both the Change of Command Ceremony and/or the tour by October 14, 2010 with Laurie Pugh by email pughla@csc-scc.gc.ca or 613-536-6881.
