FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gravenhurst, ON, November 1, 2010 - At approximately 2:45 p.m. on October 28th, 2010, an inmate was observed by staff with visible signs of injury on the range of a living unit at Fenbrook Institution. The victim appeared to have incurred significant injuries to his face and head caused by an assault. Correctional staff took immediate action and provided first aid. The inmate was sent by ambulance for treatment at outside hospital and has since returned to the institution.
Police have been notified and an investigation is on going. The Correctional Service Canada is also conducting an investigation.
At this point in time the institutional routine remains normal.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
