FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ASSAULT AT MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

Bath, Ontario, December 6, 2010 – On Saturday December 4, 2010 at approximately 8 p.m. while offenders were returning from the recreation area, a fight broke out among a group of inmates. Staff intervened and gained control. All offenders were returned to their cells by 1 a.m.

As a result of the fight, three offenders were injured and taken to Kingston General Hospital for assessment and medical attention. One offender has now been returned to Millhaven Institution and two are in CSC's care at Kingston Penitentiary Regional hospital for medical follow-up.

Five ranges at Millhaven Institution remain in lockdown. Visitors are reminded to contact the institution before visiting due to the current restrictions.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
