END OF LOCKDOWN AT COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ontario, February 8, 2011 – On Tuesday February 8, 2011 at 08:30hrs, Collins Bay Institution returned to normal institutional operations following a nine day search of the facility.

The lockdown was ordered by the Acting Deputy Warden in order for staff to facilitate a search of the institution following an incident Sunday January 30, 2011 that resulted in two weapons being found.

Searching of the institution produced a number of contraband items that have been seized. Institutional charges are in progress for the offenders found in possession of unauthorized items.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
