FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ASSAULT AND EXCEPTIONAL SEARCH – JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ontario, February 14, 2011 – On February 12 , 2011 at approximately 7:15 p.m., staff responded to an inmate assault in the Recreation area of the Institution. One inmate sustained minor injuries in the assault. Consequently, inmates were placed under lockdown status to facilitate a search of the Institution. This was initiated by the Warden to ensure the safety and security of staff and inmates.

Visits are suspended until further notice.

The safety and security of our institutions and the public is our primary objective. The Institution will return to normal operations once the Warden determines it is safe to do so.
