FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

Bath, ON, February 21th, 2011 - At approximately 7:20 am on February 21, 2011, Jamie Bouman, an inmate in the Millhaven Assessment Unit at Millhaven Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell by correctional staff during a routine patrol. Staff responded immediately and CPR was initiated. Attempts to revive the offender were unsuccessful. The offender appeared to have died of an apparent suicide.

Mr. Bouman (32) was serving a 9 years, 6 months sentence for armed robbery and aggravated assault. His sentence commenced October 1, 2010 and his warrant expiry was set for March 31, 2020.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been called in to investigate. In addition, Correctional Services Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
