FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ASSAULT - KINGSTON PENITENTIARY

KINGSTON, Ontario, March 3, 2011 – At approximately 9:30 am on February 27, 2011 an inmate was assaulted by two aggressors in a cell block area of the Institution.

The victim received a wound to the lower abdomen. He was assessed by Institutional Health Care and transported to Kingston General Hospital for treatment. He has since returned to the Institution.

Due to immediate staff intervention, the incident was controlled and aggressors were identified and secured in their cells.

A search of the cell block produced a homemade weapon. The Joint OPP Penitentiary squad is investigating the assault. CSC will conduct its own investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The Institution is currently operating on a normal daily routine.
