Kingston, ON, March 8, 2011 On March 7th, 2011 during the evening meal a group of inmates assaulted a single inmate within the dining hall. Staff intervened immediately to control the situation. The assaulted inmate received medical treatment prior to being transferred to Kingston General Hospital. The offender suffered minor injuries and was returned to the institution.
There have been no reported injuries to staff and no weapons were found.
The Institution has been locked down for the morning of March 8 pending investigation, to ensure the safety of both staff and offenders. It is expected to return to normal operations in the afternoon. Some visits may be affected, therefore visitors are asked to call ahead prior to visiting.
The OPP Pen Squad has been contacted and is investigating the incident.
CSC also examines each incident of violence in order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future incidents.
