FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EXCEPTIONAL SEARCH AT WARKWORTH INSTITUTION

June 7, 2011 - WARKWORTH, ONT – As a result of an altercation in the recreation yard Sunday June 5, 2011 at approximately 3:00 pm, Warkworth Institution was locked down. Although there were no serious injuries sustained an exceptional search of specific areas of the Institution has been initiated.

Regular visiting is temporarily suspended until further notice.

The Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating the incident in conjunction with Correctional Service Canada.

The Institution will return to normal routine once the Warden has determined that it is safe to do so. The safety and security of our Institutions and the general public remain the primary focus of our operations.
