DRUG SEIZURE

Kingston Ontario, July 5th, 2010, Collins Bay Institution – On Thursday June 30th while conducting routine screening of visitors, security staff at Collins Bay Institution performed a search of a visitor to the institution.  The search recovered approximately 25 oxycontin pills with an estimated institutional value of $3750.

With the assistance of the Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad of the Ontario Provincial Police, the visitor was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.  Additional charges are pending.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) continues to strengthen measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and to promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works closely together with our police partners to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into our correctional institutions.
