Communiqué

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT REGIONAL TREATMENT CENTRE

Kingston, Ontario, July 07th, 2011– At approximately 12:50 pm on July 06, 2011, Charlie Nakashook, an inmate at Regional Treatment Centre, was found unresponsive in his cell by correctional staff. Staff responded immediately and CPR was initiated.  Attempts to revive the inmate were unsuccessful.

Charlie Nakashook (51) was serving a sentence of 4 years 6 months for Sexual Assault, Trafficking in Narcotics and Break and Enter beginning November 04, 2008.

Next-of-kin have been notified.

In all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
