FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DRUG INTERCEPTION – JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ont., July 8, 2011, Joyceville Institution – On Tuesday, July 5, staff observed suspicious offender activity near an interior perimeter fence. Staff subsequently searched the area and recovered 1,426 grams of tobacco, 92 grams of marijuana, 4 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 10 – 40 mg oxycontin pills and 10 – 100 mg morphine pills. The total institutional value is estimated at $41,900.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad of the Ontario Provincial Police and Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) are investigating. Charges are pending.

CSC continues to strengthen measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and to promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works closely together with our police partners to prosecute inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into our correctional institutions.
