FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ASSAULT AND LOCKDOWN- COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ontario - Monday, August 15, 2011 – At approximately 8 a.m., an inmate was assaulted in a Living Unit at Collins Bay Institution.

The inmate and potential aggressor were taken to the Collins Bay Institutional Health Center for their immediate medical needs then transferred to Kingston General Hospital for further medical attention.

Both inmates are in stable condition.

The Institution is currently locked down while the Institution and the Ontario Provincial Police Penitentiary squad investigate.

Visitors are asked to contact the facility to confirm status of the visiting program before attending the site.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
