FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH - MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

Bath, ON, August 29th, 2011  – On August 26th, 2011 at approximately 8:48 pm, Benjamin Phillips an inmate in the custody of Millhaven Institution died at Kingston General Hospital of natural causes. 

Mr. Phillips (72) was serving a sentence of four years for Sexual assault, Sexual Interference.  His sentence commenced 2011-07-07; statutory release date was 2014-03-07; warrant expiry date was 2015-07-06.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, Correctional Services Canada will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
