FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT ON STAFF - MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

Bath, Ontario, November 7, 2011 – At approximately 13:05 hours on Saturday November 5, 2011, four Correctional Officers were physically assaulted by an inmate throwing an unknown liquid substance at them. Correctional Officers monitoring the area responded immediately, securing the inmate.

Health care was provided immediately to the officers and they were then taken to outside hospital for follow-up.

The institution is operating under a modified routine.

The Ontario Provincial Police Penitentiary Squad and the Correctional Service of Canada are investigating the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
