DEATH OF INMATE AT REGIONAL TREATMENT CENTRE (ONTARIO)

Kingston, Ontario, December 21, 2011 – On December 19, 2011, inmate Jack Hagen from the Regional Treatment Centre (Ontario) died of apparent natural causes at an outside hospital following an extended illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. Hagen, 78, was serving an indeterminate sentence for sexual offences. His sentence had commenced in March, 1959.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified.  In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
