FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, B.C., January 15, 2004 - An inmate died suddenly at Pacific Institution on January 14, 2004.

Matthew Nordli, age 29, was pronounced dead in the institution. There were no signs of violence.

Mr. Nordli was serving a four-year sentence, commencing in 2002, for offences including Discharging Firearm with Intent to Prevent Arrest (x2), Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, and Possession of Prohibited/Restricted Weapon.

Coroner and police have been notified and have attended the institution.

Next of kin have been notified.

Pacific Institution is a multi-level security facility.
