MISSION, B.C., January 20, 2004 - Mission Institution has resumed normal operations today after a one-day lockdown.
Inmates were locked down after an inmate sustained injuries including stabbing wounds around 5:30 p.m. on January 18. Another inmate was discovered to have injuries consistent with an altercation. The institution was locked down for inmate search and interviews and search for weapons. A weapon was recovered in the search; however, it is not believed to have been a weapon involved in the altercation.
The RCMP and institutional staff continue to investigate the incident.
The injured inmates were treated in outside hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
No staff or other inmates were injured.
Mission Institution is a medium security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located just north of Mission and currently houses 275 male offenders.
