FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, B.C., May 3, 2004 - Inmates at Matsqui Institution remained locked in their cells as the institution was placed on lock down today at 7 a.m. (May 3, 2004) to facilitate searching of the institution.

This action was taken after noting some drug activity indicators and the discovery of three home made knives over the last week. Searching is occurring to locate drug or weapon-related contraband.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a current population of 322 male offenders.
