AGASSIZ, B.C., May 9, 2004 - A cell block at Kent Institution was locked down Saturday night after an inmate was stabbed in his cell. Approximately 25 inmates remain incarcerated in the cell block where the offender was assaulted while a search is being conducted for weapons.
The rest of the institution is operating normally.
The offender was stabbed around 9:30 p.m. He was taken to outside hospital where he was treated for injuries which were not life-threatening, and then returned to the institution.
The RCMP were notified and are investigating the incident.
Kent Institution is a federal maximum-security institution located in Agassiz, 120 km east of Vancouver. It currently accommodates 253 inmates.
