FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, B.C., May 10, 2004 - Inmates at Matsqui Institution were locked in their cells as the institution was placed on lock down today at 3:30 p.m. (May 10^th) to facilitate searching of the institution.

This action was taken after drugs and knives were found during some routine and non-routine searches. Searching is occurring to locate drugs or weapon-related contraband.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a current population of 321 male offenders.
