FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPES FROM MOUNTAIN INSTITUTION

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C., May 10, 2004 - At approximately 8:00 AM on May 8th, 2004 offenders' Stafford Lake and Wayne Cassidy were noticed missing from their beds at the Kenneth Creek Work Release Camp located outside Prince George B.C. They were last seen by staff during the 4:00 AM rounds.

The Prince George RCMP was contacted and they subsequently recovered the abandoned vehicle that the offenders stole from another Kenneth Creek resident. The vehicle was located on the highway.

Stafford Lake is a 55 year old Métis male weighing 106 Kg (234 lbs) and stands 186 cm (6' 1") tall. He has grey hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion. He is serving 23 year 6 month sentence for Robbery, Sexual Assault with a Weapon and Forcible Confinement. His sentence commenced 1993.02.18.

Wayne Cassidy is a 48 year old Caucasian male weighing 81Kg (179 lbs) and stands 175 cm (5' 9") tall. He has brown hair, hazel eyes and a fair complexion. He is serving a Life Sentence for Second Degree Murder and Unlawfully at Large. His sentence commenced 1993.11.09.

Both Offenders were on a Work Release to Kenneth Creek Camp, released from Mountain Institution and currently under the supervision of the Prince George Parole Office.

Warrants of Suspension and Apprehension have been issued for the arrest of both inmates.

Kenneth Creek Camp is a facility located approximately 85 km Southeast of Prince George and can house up to 16 offenders on various types of release.

Mountain Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Agassiz and currently houses 456 federally sentenced, male inmates.
