AGASSIZ, B.C., September 23, 2004 - Inmates in the unit 1 general population units at Kent Institution are locked in their cells while staff conduct a search for contraband.
The lock down was initiated after a package containing 69 grams of marijuana was recovered from the exercise yard during the recreation period last night.
Regularly scheduled visits to the institution have been cancelled. The lock down will continue until all Unit 1 inmates have been searched.
Kent Institution is a federal male maximum-security institution located 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The institution contains 3 Living Units, currently housing a total of 256 inmates.
