FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AGASSIZ, B.C., October 31, 2004 - Inmates at Mountain Institution were locked in their cells as the Institution was placed on lockdown yesterday at 4:15 PM to facilitate the searching of the Institution.

This action was taken after suspected contraband may have been introduced during visits. As a result, an exceptional search is on-going in order to locate any illegal drugs in the Institution.

Regularly scheduled visits to the Institution and scheduled events have been suspended for the duration of the lockdown.

Mountain Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Agassiz, B.C. and currently houses 464 federally sentenced, male offenders.
