AGASSIZ, BC, January 17, 2005 - At approximately 2:20 p.m. on January 16, two inmates at Mountain Institution were involved in an altercation that resulted in one being stabbed. As a result, all inmates at the institution were locked in their cells to facilitate a search. The injured Inmate was taken to outside hospital for treatment of his minor injuries. Both Inmates have been removed from the general population.
The lock down continues today. Regularly scheduled visits to the Institution and scheduled events have been suspended for the duration of the lock down.
Mountain Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Agassiz and currently houses 479 federally sentenced, male inmates.
