AGASSIZ, BC, March 4, 2005 - At approximately 7:45 last evening, an inmate was stabbed in the gymnasium during the recreation period. The inmate was taken to health care where he was treated. He was transported to outside hospital for further assessment. He returned to custody last evening.
The inmate received numerous stab wounds, none of which were considered to be life threatening.
The RCMP and the institution's Security Intelligence Office are investigating the incident.
The weapon was retrieved from the scene and a suspect has been identified. No staff or other inmates were injured during this incident.
Kent Institution is a federal maximum-security institution located 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The institution currently houses 248 inmates.
