ABBOTSFORD, BC, April 20, 2005 - A Pacific Institution inmate attempted to escape yesterday from his security escort in Vancouver where he had been taken to attend an immigration hearing.
Two federal correctional officers suffered cuts and bruises when they prevented the escape.
The inmate was escorted in restraints from the institution in Abbotsford to Vancouver. When they arrived, the offender attacked the officer who opened the door to the security vehicle. The second officer intervened and the two officers were able to subdue the offender. They called Vancouver Police and the offender was arrested and taken into custody. He has been returned to a federal institution.
The two officers were treated at a Vancouver hospital and released.
Criminal charges are expected to be laid against the offender.
