ABBOTSFORD, BC, April 22, 2005 - The lock down of inmates at Matsqui Institution ended 7 a.m. today with the institution returning to normal operations this morning.
The institution had been locked down to conduct an exceptional search following an inmate's assault on staff and information that he was under the influence of drugs. During the search a number of contraband items were seized, including six homemade weapons, unidentified pills, approximately 70 steroid pills, three syringes, and assorted unauthorized items.
Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Abbotsford and has a current population of 304 male offenders.
